What we collect
Only what you type into our contact form or quote request: your name, email address, phone number, suburb, a description of the work, and any photos you choose to upload (for example, a photo of your distribution board). Please do not upload photos that show people or other personal documents. If you give us an email address, we send you an automatic email confirming that your enquiry arrived, with a copy of what you sent.
Why we collect it
To reply to your enquiry, prepare a quote and, if you go ahead, carry out the work. We do not use your details for marketing unless you separately ask us to, and we do not sell them.
Who sees it
Your enquiry is emailed to our office. It passes through our web host and email provider, who process it on our behalf. This website also loads fonts, icons and scripts from third-party services (Google, Cloudflare, jsDelivr), and a background image from Unsplash, which can see your IP address and browser details when the page loads.
How long we keep it
The website keeps a log of the emails it sends (the address, the subject and whether the mail server accepted the message, never the message itself) for 180 days. We keep enquiry emails only as long as needed to deal with your request and for our normal business and tax records if work is done. If your enquiry does not lead to work, we delete it after 12 months, or sooner on request. Records of completed work are kept for 5 years for tax purposes, and certificates and test reports for as long as the installation is in use.
Visit statistics
We count visits to our home page on our own server so we know which websites and searches bring people to us. For each visit we keep the date and time, the website you came from, whether you used a phone, tablet or computer, and a code that changes every day and cannot be turned back into your IP address or identity. We do not use Google Analytics, we set no cookies for this, and we skip visitors whose browser sends "Do Not Track" or the Global Privacy Control signal. We also count how often the Call, WhatsApp and Email buttons are tapped (no personal details), and when you send us an enquiry we note which website or link you came from, so we know which of our marketing works. These records are kept for 13 months.
Cookies and browser storage
We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. The only thing this website stores in your browser is your light or dark theme choice, and it stays on your device. The administration area uses a session cookie for staff sign-in only.
Keeping it safe
Photos you upload are re-saved by our system with their location data removed. Access to enquiries is limited to staff with a password-protected account. If we ever discover that your personal information was accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email info@pursuitelectrics.co.za with the subject "Privacy request" and we will respond. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
